Sorry, I have been MIA the last few weeks, I have had a very sad 10 days, and I am going to need some time for myself and family.. 1st my dads had to have heart surgery which was a bit scary qnd I went to WV for that, but then he started doing well within a couple of days and right now health wise doing VERY well,.. a few days after I got there I got a phone call my grandma was taken to the hospital, then on Oct. 24th my grandma passed away due to a split/torn aorta.. I came home Thursday for my Grandmother's funeral Friday and then Friday night I got a phone call from my dad, that my step mom had been admitting in the hospital, this is a very long story and right now I just can't go into it, it is a little much for me to handle as I had just spent a whole week with her and had no idea....., so back to WV I went, her brain had been damaged to far for recovery. She was on life support up until early Wed Nov 1st, around 2:30am, and passed away a little before 3am, My dad will be moving in with me here in the next 2/3 weeks sometime after he takes care of his affairs and hers, and I will be going back and forth from home and WV... So I will be extremely busy, and I am just a bit overwhelmed with all of the events taking place around me, but my FileKutz is and always has been a release for me, but I can't say how much or when I will be online.. Some of the DT ladies will still hold challenges and I will send them as I can.. but please don't expect to much from me for a few weeks. I will not be keeping up with the forum, or all of the blogs right now.. as much as I usually do, and that will be it for awhile, unless I get a chance or just need a escape. Anyone who participated in the last challenge, you all will get a free file please just allow me till after Thanksgiving to get it to you, then send me an email with your request. A few of the FileKutz's DT Members may hold a challenge here, so watch for those :)

I am going to try and add the last thing I was working on "October/November Bi-Monthly Grab Bag to the store.. so I will post on the FileKutz Blog if I get it up soon. am sorry for those who already signed up that I had not gotten it up last week :(, I am just having my life turned upside down right now. FileKutz Color Challenge For October

FileKutz Challenge Blog is Holding a Color Challenge starting on the 8th of October, this is a short challenge so get your entries in, starting on the 8th (sorry auto-post did not work, so we will change the submission date to the 19th)! Challenge ends on the 20th and the winners will be announced. Don't forget to veiw the FileKutz Newsletter Here, if you'd like to get it through email sign up using the Email Mail List Button on the side of our blogs.

Rules are easy:

1. to use the specified color(s)! This is just a fun do it on your own challenge! You do NOT have to use a filekutz design, but you can if you'd like

2. It has to be a CRAFTY project you created.. scrapbooking layout, home decor craft, card ect

3. Folow this blog, post the project on your blog or email a picture to me with the subject line "October Color Challenge" and leave a comment here with your blog address or that you emailed me, so I know you have entered a project.

October 2011 FileKutz Free File Challenge

Oct 15th to Nov 7th
(this challenge is being announced earlier due to the new way of recieving the free files for the challenge, please read on)

This month I am doing the challenges a little different then I have before on how you get the file, no more downlaoding, I am still offering a free file for you to use and the rules of using it are about the same.. as always you must agree to my TOU's to use my files.

I am offering 2 freebie file of my "Wicth Cauldron and Bats Borders" Lk00180 AND "Spider Web Octogon Page Frame" Lk00186 Offered in The FileKutz Newsletter sent between 1st-5th of every Month, sign up HERE or you can EMAIL ME A REQUEST for the file if you want to enter and are a follower of this blog. You can use it how you want to!! On any project!! You get both files, but you can use one or both for your entry.

FileKutz September 2011 Challenge

Hi there fellow crafters, welcome to FileKutz Challenge Blog! Sorry, I was so MIA last month, so much going on with kids starting school and then I decided to change internet providers and WOW was that an experience!! Living in a small town, out in the country is not fun when looking for providers for your area :) But, I am all back up and going and things have settled down a little with the kids, but life is still crazy with 4 boys: and 1st year for each one; 1 in high school; 1 in middle school, 1 in kindergarden and 1 in preschool.. so I have 4 different school calendars and 2 football schedules.. plus normal daily life! But I am back, so lets get on with our next challenge!!

September 2011 FileKutz Free File Challenge

This month I am doing the challenge a little different then I have before (just this month), I am still offering a free file for you to use and the rules of using it are about the same.. as always you must agree to my TOU's to use my files.

Time after Tme Host Challenge

Poets, songwriters and philosophers have all written, sung and lectured about TIME....the sweet rewards, the tragic loss of, the thief, the ravisher, the treasure, the pleasure. This weekend's challenge also revolves around TIME. LisaJane has created an absolute treasure of a file that includes clock faces, hands and numbers, even roman numerals. There are so many options in this file, you will be able to use it over and over and get a different look each time.

My challenge to you is to simply create a layout/card/project that includes this file AND the word "time" somewhere on your project. The way you decide to use the file is entirely up to you...use it as a background, an embellishment or part of a saying or title. Time may be used in any form on your layout also....borrow from a song, a saying, or by itself. (I am sure you can think of millions but just in case, you can find some "time" songs and sayings HERE and HERE .)

You will have the rest of the week and weekend to create your layout as the submission deadline will be May 23rd at 12:00pm EST and winners will be announced here on this blog soon after. A random winner will be chosen from the submissions to receive an additional free file of your choice from FILEKUTZ. **Please use the "add your link" button at the bottom of this post to link up your submitted project

For my layout, I kept hearing Cyndi Lauper's classic "Time after Time" running over and over in my head and I just love the unconditional meaning of the lyrics "If you fall, I will catch you" so I incorporated that into this layout about my son. I wanted to use the file as a background so I chose the hands and numerals I wanted to use, cut them out and then used Black Diamond stickles on them to give them a shiny finish like a metal clock would have.

I hope you get a chance to play with this really great file and enter the challenge. And don't forget to subscribe to this blog so that you can be notified of upcoming file challenges to get you inspired and motivated to complete those layouts.

I do have some tips for cutting files like this, with lots of small parts..

1. Make sure your blade is sharp or new.. I use a seperate blade for cutting like this that I swap out when I am done cuttin detailed cuts.

2. Turn your paper upside down and do a double cut, it gives smaller cut a much better cut and if you have a white core paper you won't see the white core cutting upside down. (Just make sure you flip your design, if needed)

3. If you have adjustable rollers on your machine move them to be on top of the paper, to hold in place better when doing a double cut.

4. Ungroup or Unweld the whole file (if it is large and has small parts inside) and cut the inside pieces before you cut the outside stroke/line. This will save you from cutting up your small parts and getting broking pieces on your finished background and small pieced files.

5. If your 1st cut don't come out well, inlarge the or outline the outside stroke just a little, then delete/remove the original outside stroke, then cut small pieces 1st, then cut the new outline you made.

6. Some machine's are just not cut out for cutting small pieces.. if this is the case with your machine and you can't cut a file of mine because of small pieces, email me and tell me about it, your issue and the machine/program you use, and I will see if I can redesign with a little larger pieces (I can usually do this in most cases).. as I have a few times before for a customer who uses a Silhoutte machine and has to cut smaller due to the max cutting of 11x8".
